About jaunt

Sometimes I feel like I should have grown up in Hawaii. When I moved here in 1998 I would tour the islands and every bit of heaven I would stumble across I would just think to myself how much I could have enjoyed it if I had grown up here. I love living on Oahu and visiting friends that live on the outer islands.

It wasn’t til I started going back to visit my family in New Hampshire with my own family that I realized how amazing my childhood was growing up there. I got to show my kids the little bits of Heaven I grew up stumbling upon. I got to experience the joy all over again. I think my kids really have the best of both worlds living in Hawaii full time and getting to experience Spofford New Hampshire every summer. Spofford is a Lake in the South East corner of New Hampshire. It’s a big slice of heaven for me and now for my family. It’s where I was raised and also where I got into photography. What started off as taking photos of my friends snowboarding turned into a full time gig traveling around the US with professional snowboarders and documenting their adventures. It was an amazing time driving cross country and riding all these mountains I had only seen in magazines growing up. It was a short stint and sometimes I regret not sticking with it but it had to come to an end. I had another calling and it was photography school. It was only a one year program but I was able to enjoy the last year my school worked with film. We shot medium format in the studio and used 4X5 Large format for architecture and still lifes in the studio. I used my background in action sports photography and snowboarding to build my school portfolio and graduated in 1998. I worked the summer at Budweiser Beer Distribution, sold all my stuff and bought a one way ticket to Oahu. A move that many didn’t feel like it was gonna last. Some people even said they would give me 6 months and I would be back.

It’s been almost 22 years here in Hawaii. My love for the ocean which started in York Maine when I was 8 years old has taken over. My life consumed with bodysurfing, surfing and photographing anything having to do with the ocean and waves, and of course my family. Not sure I would do things differently. Except maybe spending more time back in Spofford.

Not much has changed photographically for me. Everything you will find on this site mirrors my love for capturing moments in time on film. It’s what I love and the process is engrained in my DNA. I have been exposing emulsions since I was 10 years old and don’t plan on stopping ever!

I hope you got a little bit of info about me in this rant and maybe even got to take a spin through my print shop. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
